G clef and F clef. How fun are these to teach to the wee ones? Within the first few lessons, my preschool kids know all about G clef and F clef, they can place the G note on the G line, and the F note on the F line. And of course, they can place middle C with ease. I describe the G clef as having a head, a big belly, and a tail. I trace the treble clef with my fingers as I am describing it. The G line goes straight through G’s big belly, and the F line goes right between F’s “eyes”. They seem to love this, and the confidence with which they can successfully place these first 3 notes. And of course, moms and dads are impressed. Before long we add the treble and bass clef C’s, and then move on to the others. How do you introduce the clefs? The first few notes?
