Preschoolers LOVE hallowe’en, music class and micro cars. When you put them all together, you get some fun off the bench learning opportunities. You can do this with whatever resources you might already have on hand, and just lay them out in a pattern on the floor.
Make sure you choose symbols that your young student knows well. For example, groups of 2 black keys and 3 black keys, G clef and F clef, alphabet letters, basic rhythm, etc.
My students usually request this activity, so I save a few minutes for it at the end of our lesson, provided they have given me their very best listening skills.
I have created a Hallowe’en themed game that reinforces the very first basics a preschooler needs to know. They get to drive around the “town” in a micro car (or whatever you have on hand), and park in the spaces that match the card they choose. This simple activity gives them confidence in learning their first music terms and symbols, and they have so much fun. This is available to everyone, and Off the Piano Bench Club members can enjoy a significant discount 🙂
