We Will Rock You! (and other Rhythm Cups Fun)

I recently read a Facebook post about how a fellow teacher used Wendy Stevens’ Rhythm Cup Explorations with her students, cupping along to the Ghostbusters theme song, and The Addams Family theme song.  I thought I would give it a try.  We have been clapping and rhythm-cupping for quite some time, but this brought it to a whole new level!   I am not a huge fan of backing tracks / artificial sounding music (yup – I’m a bit old school), but I was intrigued by the concept of using this music.

I have tried it with each of my classes now, and yesterday with one of my preschoolers !!  EVERYBODY loves to do this.   I have toy drum sticks that we used on red solo cups – just keeping beat with the music and having fun (for the younger students), and for the rest of them, we opened up Rhythm Cups and had a ton of fun.  Ghostbusters, The Addams Family and We Will Rock You were our songs of choice for this week, and I am going to keep adding to my collection!

Having music they can relate to really seems to get them completely immersed in the rhythm without counting beats.   If you haven’t tried rhythm cups, or any beat-keeping-to-popular-songs in your studio, I highly recommend it !

So head on over to Wendy’s website and get some rhythm cups happiness going in your studio.  There is a Rhythm Cup Explorations 1, Rhythm Cup Explorations 2, and a Rhythm Cups Holiday Edition, which is also pretty awesome  🙂
